1868–1900 Evolution of Programs
Evolution of Programs –Dennison's mission involved to be directed more toward serving troubled, at risked children. Dennison broadened its scope, reaching out to immigrants, disadvantaged children, and families of seamen
1904 First Center Fouded
Dennison founded its first center in 1904, in a small space in the heart of the South End of New Bedford, becoming a vital community hub for new immigrant families.
1975 Dennison Memorial Community Center
The Ladies City Mission Society changes its name to Dennison Memorial Community Center as programs officially change to focus on children
2000 Dennison Gymnasium is built
Initially funded by the Community Development Block Grant, and then later developed from Foundation Donations, Dennison built a gym adjacent to their Center Building in 2000
2002 On the HorizonÂ
After 98 years of service, private funding for the building of a new Dennison Center is raised
2004 A Fresh Start
After 98 years of service the original Dennison Center was reconstructed next to the gymnasium, in order to provide better programs for Dennison Kids
2013 Dennison Dribble
Dennison host their first Dennison Dribble a fundraiser basketball game that would be one of thier most successful fundraisers
2017 Dennison Founders Award Dinner
Dennison hosts their first founder Awards
2024 The Passing of Mr H
Sean P Hargraves was one of our great directors here at Dennison Memorial. He had unfortunately passed away, in 2024 leaving the whole city speechless. We help many events as Dennison to honor the legacy left by Mr. H here at Dennison.Â
2026 Jim' s Retirement Joe's Turn to step up
Jim Mathes was our director here at Dennison, serving the city of New Bedford and the Dennison Memorial Community for several years. In early 2026 Jim decided it was time to retire and give his position to our current director Joe Neves. With Joe being our new director Michael Perry (MJ) is now our assistant director.Â
